Dr. Bobbi F. Johnson, Superintendent of Culpeper County Public Schools, has been named the Region IV School Superintendent of the Year by the Virginia Association of School Superintendents (VASS). Region IV encompasses 19 school divisions in Northern Virginia.

Dr. Johnson was selected by other superintendents in her region, and she will be formally recognized at the VASS annual conference in Roanoke in May.

Dr. Johnson has served as Superintendent of Culpeper County Public Schools since 2009. Prior to that, she served as a teacher, then principal, director of instruction, and assistant superintendent. She oversees a school division of more than 7,700 students, over 600 teachers, and 10 schools. The school division’s annual operating budget is $79M.

As an educator with 30 years of experience, Johnson has continually been a champion for student achievement and has fought to assist underachieving populations and students.

Under Dr. Johnson’s direction, the division has undergone several renovation projects including the installation of security vestibules at all schools. Community partnerships have expanded and the premier scholarship program, E Squared, has produced students with marketable, business ideas. Joining Mountain Vista Governor’s school, and other advanced programs and offerings, is the new Germanna Scholars program that affords students the opportunity to earn their high school diploma and associate’s degree simultaneously.

Dr. Johnson has been awarded the Chamber of Commerce Athena Award for most influential woman, the first sever Economics Educator Award from Lynchburg College, and was named the 2009 Evelyn P. Bickham Outstanding Alumni Undergraduate from Lynchburg College.

Dr. Johnson serves as the chair of the Northern Virginia Superintendent’s Study Group, is a member of the executive board of the Virginia Association of Superintendents, and serves on the state superintendent’s leadership council.

She has been married for 37 years to her husband, David, and has four children and three grandchildren. Bobbi enjoys movies, reading, and decorating.
